Where do we even begin with this dreamy Oregon coast elopement! Morgan and Dan reached out to me knowing they wanted to elope on the coast. They just weren’t set on a location so I sent them a list of some of my favorite spots. After checking out some of Oregons greatest gems they landed on Cape Kiwanda for their elopement. If you are planning to elope on the Oregon coast, I recommend spending a day hopping around to some of your favorite beaches. I would also recommend going around the same time of year/time of day as your ceremony. This will give you a better idea of how the lighting will look day of.
Cape Kiwanda is located just north of Pacific City and has some of the best ocean views the Oregon coast has to offer. The orange and gold sandstone cliffs do not disappoint. Theres quite a steep climb up the sand dune to really get to the magic. The reward for the short hike is absolutely worth it. However, if you don’t want to hike up the dune in your wedding outfit, the sandstone backdrop is equally as magnificent and makes for a perfect the ceremony location. Tips on How to Elope at Cape Kiwanda
Elopement Location ideas
Cape Kiwanda has a plethora of jaw dropping backdrops for an elopement ceremony. There are expansive sand dunes, epic views of the Pacific Ocean, and rocky cliffs made up of orange sandstone. If you are eloping or having an intimate ceremony with a few guests I would recommend having your ceremony on the stretch of beach by Haysack Rock. It’s a bit of a climb up some sand dunes to get to those sweeping views of the sea and eroded sandstone. I recommend making the climb up after your ceremony for your portraits if you’re not eloping just the two of you.
When to Elope at Cape Kiwanda
There are a few factors to consider when deciding when to elope on the Oregon Coast. Firstly is weather. In the summer months you can typically expect blue skies and dreamy sunsets. While in the fall & winter months you’ll find Cape Kiwanda to be filled with fog and overcast skies. Both are beautiful but definitely fit different aesthetics. Secondly, make sure you’re keeping a close eye on the tide charts around your ceremony time. I like to use the Tideschart app to get a good idea of when the Tide is low around Pacific City & Cape Kiwanda . Thirdly, keep in mind that Cape Kiwanda is a pretty popular beach and can get crowded on the weekends. Consider eloping during the week or even for sunrise!
Where to eat, drink and celebrate
Pelican Brewery actually shares a parking lot with Cape Kiwanda and is a great place to grab a celebratory drink post ceremony.
Meridian Restaurant & Bar at Headlands Lodge
Meridian is also just steps away from beach! The interior boasts high ceilings, epic views and cozy vibes. Meridians Chefs create innovative, Northwest menus that evolve and change throughout the seasons. I definitely recommend enjoying dinner and drinks by the fire during your elopement.

Where to stay near Cape Kiwanda
You cant get any closet to Cape Kiwanda than the Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa. Accommodation include the main oceanfront lodge and multiple oceanfront cottages.

Morgan and Dan rented a small airbnb just a few minutes from the beach and had their immediate family meet them at the sandstone for their intimate ceremony. Post-ceremony they popped champagne, ran around barefoot on the beach and climbed up (and ran down) sand dunes. We ended the night with a windy coastal sunset and warm chowder with family back at their Airbnb.
In short, this Oregon coast elopement was one for the books.
