Some weddings are all about tradition. Others are about breaking the mold with an effortlessly cool celebration. Jade and Thomas’s restaurant wedding reception at Han Oak was the latter. Han Oak is one of Portland’s most beloved restaurants. It was the perfect setting for Jade and Thomas to hold a vibrant, stylish, and intimate dinner party celebrating their love with the people who matter most.
Restaurant weddings are amazing for so many reasons. A few of the perks include:
Bonus: You can go back for anniversary dinners. My husband and I got married in a restaurant, and we return every year for our anniversary. It’s very sweet!
If this is the type of experience you want for your Portland restaurant wedding, you should definitely consider Han Oak. It’s a modern Korean restaurant with a warm, inviting atmosphere. The space balances elevated and casual design elements to be engaging and fun for guests. It’s easy to see why it’s a favorite restaurant wedding venue in the city.

Jade and Thomas met eight years before their wedding. At the time they were living in different cities, L.A. and Portland. Jade said, “we have been pretty much inseparable ever since.” They moved to Germany together for four years before making their home in Portland. In 2022, they got engaged on a trip to Mexico City. Their wedding journey felt relaxed, intentional, and joyfully unhurried.
In lieu of a traditional wedding, they officially tied the knot with a civil ceremony in the Bay Area over Christmas. Their Han Oak reception brought together loved ones for an unforgettable dinner party. They celebrated their love with great food, company, and, of course, fashion.
Family played a big role on their wedding day, too. When I asked them what they looked forward to, family came up time and again. Jade wanted pictures with her sister who looks so much like her. Thomas couldn’t wait to dance with his abuela. Jade and Thomas also looked forward to having both their families in one place for photos and bonding.
This restaurant wedding felt like a natural extension of Jade and Thomas. They deeply appreciate design, fashion, food, wine, and community. All of these elements came together on their wedding day. From Jade’s vintage Bob Mackie dress to the nostalgic film photography preserving the sweetest moments, this evening was pure magic. Han Oak was the ideal setting for it all.
Jade and Thomas didn’t want a lot of formalities at their wedding. When I asked them which moments mattered most, here’s what they shared:
Han Oak has such a great ambiance. The space’s style lends itself to being documented on film photography. Every frame feels timeless.
Jade described her hopes for her wedding photos this way: “We want to feel like we had a really fun, contemporary, indulgent party with our closest friends and family. We want to look back and remember the different uniquely ‘us’ aspects of the day – style, friends, great food, wine, music.”
All of that and more comes through in these photos!
